An anti-social fallen angel; one of the funniest parody movies ever made; Vin Diesel hunting witches through time; and a bunch of other stuff that we're not really sure how to feel about... this is The Digital Dread Report for 2/2!
February is starting out slow on the Blu-ray & DVD front (it gets better as the weeks go on), but there are a few Must See titles that are worth considering.

Jack's in a rut. Depression and severe anti-social behavior has whittled down his existence to sleeping and watching television. Seeing the human race as little more than meat with a pulse, Jack has no interest to bond with anyone. There's little purpose for him to make friends with someone he'd eventually eat or outlive by more than a millennia. The fuse is lit when Jack's past comes back to rattle him. Jack must now walk a tight rope of sobriety and try to eat as few people as possible in this violent tale of personal responsibility.
A great Dark Comedy starring the ever-cool Henry Rollins, He Never Died was easily one of our favorite flicks of 2015.
I personally don't buy many DVDs anymore (because Blu-ray exists, and so there's no point), but once in a while a movie will come along that is only released on DVD which makes me break my "I won't watch anything in standard definition, because it sucks" rule, and this is exactly that kind of flick.
It's absolutely worthy of a rental, at the very least.
Jack Spade, a goody-goody war hero with medals for short-hand, returns to the ghetto to discover that his brother, Junebug, has OG'd (Over-Golded) on jewelry. Jack swears revenge against the local gang boss, Mr. Big, and sets off to enlist an army of Shaft, Superfly and Black Caesar - look-a-likes, that is. They don't come easy, cheap - or young -- but they do have nice clothes and enough firepower left in them to practically destroy Mr. Big's Big Brim Bar where the bad guys wear - you guessed it - big hats!
I know, it's nowhere near being a Horror flick, but in a slow week for Must Own Blu-ray releases, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka is about as Must Own as it gets.
As far as parodies go, this one is an all-time great, especially if you're at all familiar with the Blaxploitation movies that were so prevalent throughout the 70's. Hammer, Slammer, Kung-Fu Joe, the endless amount of quotable lines, and that kick-ass theme song by KRS-One... this is a hilarious movie that is going in our collection on day one.
Special Features:
- Making-of Featurette
- Additional Interviews and B-rolls
- Trailer Gallery
Kaulder is an immortal witch hunter who has spent centuries tracking down those who practice evil magic. When history's deadliest witches resurrect their bloodthirsty Queen Witch, Kaulder becomes humanity's last hope as he clashes with the supernatural in an epic battle for the ages.
Like I said, it's a thin week for Must Own Blu-ray releases, so we're featuring The Last Witch Hunter up at the top. It wasn't all that bad, and at the very least it will look great on Blu-ray.
You most likely already know if you want to buy this movie or not, and if you don't, then maybe give it a rent before buying it.
Special Features:
- "Crafting the Magic: The Last Witch Hunter" Featurette
- Animated Short Films - The Origins of the Axe and Cross
- The Last Witch Hunter Sizzle Reel / "Paint It, Black"
- Audio Commentary with Director Breck Eisner
- Deleted Scenes
A mixed bag awaits us here at the bottom of the order, which features a bunch of movies that should probably be rented instead of purchased.
- Hellions was an alright Supernatural Horror flick that should have been better than it was. (Read our review HERE.)
- Martyrs was a mess, and made us want to punch our TV. (Read our review HERE.)
- The witch in Snow White scared the piss out of us when we were kids, and now that it's on Blu-ray, we're ready to use her to scare the kids in our family in the same way. It's a rite of passage for us.
- All Hallows Eve 2 was a fun Horror Anthology that got more right than it did wrong. (Read our review HERE.)
- Julia underwhelmed the hell out of us (to the point where we didn't even want to review it), but it might just please hardcore fans of vampire flicks.
- Uncaged looks like a promising, albeit low-budget, creature feature.
- Visions was another bland, ordinary Supernatural Thriller from Blumhouse that was decent enough, but nothing all that special. (Read our review HERE.)
- And everything else, as always, is a crap-shoot.
